:::hint{type="info"}
**Beta feature.** A staff-facing tool for tracking student skills, milestones, or curriculum progress per class — a flexible checklist, gradebook, or update feed depending on how you configure it.
:::

:::hint{type="info"}
Class-linked progress groups are configured and logged by staff — but members now have their own view too. See [Member view](docId\:YFsT8oadoodhUuXVKOm5u) below.
:::

## 🔧 Enabling It

Go to **Settings → General → Modules** and turn on **Progress**. A **Progress** item appears in the sidebar for admins, instructors, and team members who have the **Manage Progress** permission.

:::hint{type="info"}
Team members need the **Manage Progress** permission (Team → **⋯ → Manage Locations & Permissions**) to create or edit groups and items and to log progress. They're limited to their assigned locations. Without the permission, Progress is hidden from their sidebar. See [People & User Management](docId\:sHSaG7Fh-PcXgPNFESYgc).

## 🏷️ Progress Groups (the checklist)

A **Progress Group** is a named checklist — e.g. "Swim Levels" — that instructors track against. Each group is scoped one of two ways:

- **Category default** — applies to every class in a class category
- **Class override** — applies only to one specific class, overriding its category's default

A class with neither a category default nor its own override simply has no progress configured — nothing to track.

### Managing groups

On the Progress page, click the **Manage groups** tab (admin only):

1. Click **New group**
2. Choose **Applies to** — a class category, or a single class (this can't be changed after creation)
3. Name the group (e.g. "Swim Levels") and optionally add a description shown to instructors
4. Click **Create group**

Deleting a group hides it from instructors and admins going forward, but any progress already recorded stays intact and remains visible in students' history.

### Progress Items (the rows inside a group)

Inside each group, add **Progress Items** — the individual skills or milestones instructors track. Each item has a type:

| Type                            | What it tracks                                                                           |
| ------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Checklist**                   | Simple status — Not Started / In Progress / Achieved                                     |
| **Graded (mark/score)** | A numeric mark out of a max, with a letter grade computed from a rubric you define |
| **Media update (photo + note)** | Narrative photo + caption updates with no status — e.g. "Emma finished her art activity" |

Items can be nested one level deep — a parent item with sub-items becomes a read-only container whose status (Not Started / In Progress / All Achieved) is computed automatically from its children, never logged directly.

For **Graded** items, define a rubric of grade bands (e.g. 0–59% = C, 60–79% = B, 80–100% = A) — use **Copy rubric from…** to reuse another item's bands.

## ✅ Logging Progress (Instructor / Admin / Team)

Open **Progress → \[Class]** to see the class roster, in **Grid** or **List** view. Each student card links through to their progress detail.

- **Checklist items** — click the status pill and choose Not Started / In Progress / Achieved. Marking **Achieved** opens a dialog to confirm the date (defaults to today, can be back-dated) and add an optional note.
- **Graded items** — click **Record mark**, enter the mark and the max ("out of"), and the grade is computed automatically (with an option to override it). Add an optional note.
- **Media items** — click **Add update** to post a photo (up to 6 per entry) with a caption.
- Any item also supports a standalone **Add note** for commentary that doesn't change status.

Each item's history can be expanded to see a timeline of past entries with date and who recorded it. Admins and team can edit or delete any past entry; instructors can edit or delete the entries they recorded themselves.

### Bulk Mark Entry

For graded items, click **Enter marks** to open a spreadsheet-style dialog — pick the graded item, enter a mark for every student at once, and click **Save marks**.

### Excluding a student

Admins and team can toggle **Exclude from tracking** on a student's card to hide them from the class's active roster view without deleting any history they already have.

## 📊 Summaries

- **Class Progress page** — shows Students Tracked, Have Started, Completed Everything, and Class-wide Completion %, plus a per-item breakdown.
- **Student Progress page** — shows the student's progress across all their tracked classes, with a **Grade Trend** chart for classes with graded items.
- **Progress overview page** — for admins, groups all classes by their resolved Progress Group; for instructors/team, shows only the classes they're assigned to.

## 👁️ Hide from Parent

On a student's progress page, admins and team can toggle **Hide from parent** / **Show to parent** per class — controlling whether that class's progress appears on the member's own My Progress view below.

***

## 👨‍👩‍👧 Member view (My Progress)

Members and guardians see their child's progress at **My Progress** (web) or the **Progress** tab (mobile app). If a guardian has more than one child, they can switch between them, or view a combined "All" feed of recent updates across every child.

For the selected child, the page shows:

- **Achievements** — badges/awards staff have given the student (see below)
- **Personal Objectives** — one-off goals set just for that student (see below)
- **Class progress** — the same checklist/graded/media items staff log, for any class where **Hide from parent** is off

A chronological **updates feed** underneath surfaces recent entries across all of the above, newest first.

## 🎯 Personal Objectives

A **Personal Objective** is a progress group scoped to one specific student rather than a class or category — for a one-off goal that doesn't fit any of their enrolled classes (e.g. a behavioural goal, a one-time skill focus). Admins and team create and manage these from the student's profile; the item types (checklist, graded, media) and logging flow are identical to class-linked Progress Groups.

Admins and team see every Personal Objectives group in the tenant (team: within their assigned locations). Instructors can:

- **Create** Personal Objectives for students they teach — from the **Progress** page, click **Personal Objectives** → the student picker lists only their own students
- **View and log** against a student's Personal Objectives if they teach that student in any class, or if an admin assigned them to the group

Only admins and team can assign specific instructors to a Personal Objectives group.

## 🏅 Achievements

An **Achievement** is a one-off award or milestone recorded for a student — separate from the checklist/graded item system above. Each achievement has a title, description, an optional photo, a type (e.g. certificate, badge, milestone), and who issued it.

- **Admins and team** can add an achievement with a photo, and can mark one **Internal only** — hidden from the member's My Progress view, for staff-facing notes.
- **Instructors** can add achievements too (text only, no photo, no internal-only option) and can edit their own entries, but can't delete any.

Achievements appear on the member's My Progress / mobile Progress view unless marked internal-only.
