REMMU can automatically apply a **late fee** when a member pays after their due date. This encourages on-time payments without requiring manual intervention.

## 💰 How It Works

1. Admin sets a **payment due window** (e.g. 10 days after invoice is created)
2. When a payment is created, the due date is calculated: `created date + due days`
3. If the member pays **before** the due date — no extra charge
4. If the member pays **after** the due date — a late fee is added to their total at checkout
5. The late fee amount is recorded on the payment for reporting and audit purposes

**Note:** The late fee is calculated at the time of payment based on how late it is. Only the **Per Day** type grows with each day late.

## ⚙️ Configuring the Due Window

Go to **Settings → Invoice Settings → Payment Due Days**.

Set the number of days a member has to pay before the fee applies. For example:

- `10 days` — payment must be made within 10 days of the invoice date
- `30 days` — 30-day window before late fee kicks in

## ⚙️ Configuring the Late Fee

Go to **Settings → Billing → Late Fee Settings**, turn on **Enable Late Fees**, then choose a **Late Fee Type**:

| Type | What the member is charged |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Fixed Amount** | One flat fee (e.g. RM 10.00) once the payment is late |
| **Percentage** | A percentage of the invoice amount |
| **Per Day** | An amount for every day the payment is late |
| **Tiered** | A different fee depending on how many days late the payment is (see below) |

You can also set a **Grace Period (Days)** — the number of days after the due date before any late fee applies. Days late are counted after the grace period.

## 🪜 Tiered Late Fees

Use **Tiered** when the fee should increase the later a member pays. Each tier has a **From day**, a **To day** and an **Amount (RM)**.

**Example** — due date is the 10th:

| Days late    | Late fee |
| ------------ | -------- |
| 1 – 10 days  | RM 5.00  |
| 11 – 20 days | RM 10.00 |

1. Choose **Tiered** as the Late Fee Type
2. Set the first tier: From day `1`, To day `10`, Amount `5`
3. Click **Add tier** and set From day `11`, To day `20`, Amount `10`
4. Click **Save Late Fee Settings**

:::hint{type="info"}
**Tiers are not added together.** The tier that matches how late the payment is replaces the earlier ones. A payment 15 days late is charged RM 10.00, not RM 15.00.
:::

:::hint{type="success"}
Leave **To day** empty on the last tier to mean "and beyond". For example, `21` → empty → RM 20.00 charges RM 20.00 for any payment 21 or more days late.
:::

:::hint{type="warning"}
If the last tier has an end day, no late fee applies after it. Tiers cannot overlap, and only the last tier can have an empty To day.

Tiered and Per Day fees can be viewed on the mobile app but must be edited from the web app.

## 👤 Member Experience

When a member checks out for an overdue payment:

- The checkout summary shows the original amount plus the late fee separately
- Example: `Class Fee: RM 150.00 + Late Fee: RM 10.00 = Total: RM 160.00`

Members can see the breakdown before confirming payment.

## 🔧 Admin Override

Admins can manually mark a payment as paid without the late fee being applied — useful if the delay was due to a system issue or you've agreed to waive the fee.

To waive: open the payment → **Mark as Paid** (bypasses checkout and late fee calculation).

***

## 📊 Reporting

The late fee amount is stored on each payment record. You can see:

- Which payments had a late fee applied
- The total late fees collected in a period

This is visible from the payment detail view and in exported payment data.

## ⚙️ Disabling Late Fees

To stop applying late fees, go to **Settings → Billing → Late Fee Settings** and turn off **Enable Late Fees**. Existing overdue payments will not be affected.
